Traditional Practice, Modern Application

Rope wall yoga has deep roots. Known as Yoga Kuruṇṭa, this practice was developed and refined by B.K.S. Iyengar, who installed the first modern rope walls at his institute in Pune, India in 1975.

The concept is beautifully simple: use suspended ropes to help your body in various yoga postures, like a puppeteer guiding a puppet—except you're both the puppeteer and the puppet, creating your own transformation.

Our instructors have studied authentic Iyengar rope techniques, bringing this time-tested practice to Providence with modern safety standards and expert guidance.

"Is every class just rope wall work?" Not at all! Our classes include standing poses, seated postures, backbends, forward folds, and traditional sequences. The rope wall is used when it enhances a pose or helps with alignment, but it's just one tool in our comprehensive Iyengar approach.

"Do I need to be strong?" You don't need to start with strength - that's what you'll build! The ropes provide support and assistance, allowing you to work within your current abilities while gradually developing strength and flexibility.

"Do I need to wait for a rope wall class?" No! We integrate rope work into classes when beneficial for specific poses.

"What should I wear?" Comfortable clothes that won't slip. We recommend fitted tops and full-length pants.
